Austrocylindropuntia subulata, which some botanists consider to be Opuntia subulata, is widely cultivated in living fences in South America, and likely it originated in Peru. It has numerous cylindrical green stems with numerous yellow spines and, understandably, is effective as a living fence. These crests have fewer spines but are quite nice. These plants are rooted cuttings in 8-inch pots.
