Widely distributed in Africa, this pachycaul tree has shredding bark typically revealing a purplish surface underneath. The original material for these plants is from northern Namibia. The ovate leaves are large, 5-lobed, hairy, and with conspicuous veins; they are used as cattle and goat feed in some environments, such as Socotra. The flowers are small, bell-shaped, and yellow. These plants are seedlings in one-gallon pots.
