This extremely unusual cactus was originally named Digitostigma caput-medusae, but its flowers place it within Astrophytum even if the plant bears no resemblance to anything else in that genus. Thin, finger-like stems arise from a tuberous root, and those stems bear small spots (trichomes) typical of many Astrophytum. The flowers are typically Astrophytum, white with yellow centers. These plants are seedlings in 5-inch pots.
