This highly unusual species is from coastal Chile, where it is a pachycaul shrub. The small succulent leaves, produced mostly in winter, are a glossy green and have an axial fold. The flowers are bright yellow. These plants are difficult to grow and are intolerant of summer watering or rainfall. These plants are rooted cuttings in 5-inch pots.
