Known as the scarlet Sterculia, this species is native to southeast Asia. Some consider it to be Sterculia colorata, but well keep it in Firmiana for now. It is a deciduous tree up to 40 high, and it produces masses of orange-red flowers before it produces its leaves. This species can be used for bonsai and, if cut frequently, forms a pachycaul trunk. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
