In coastal settings of South Africa, ranging northeastwards from the Eastern Cape Province to KwaZulu-Natal, this large tree has bright scarlet flowers. The dark-green leaves are palmate and have little protuberances that resemble thorns. These plants are seedlings in 2-gallon pots.
