From the Horn of Africa, primarily Somalia and Ethiopia, this is a small tree develops a pachycaul form with age. The leaves are dark green and tri-lobate, and they are typically smaller than the closely related Sterculia africana. The flowers are small, bell-shaped, and reddish-yellow. These plants are seedlings in 5-inch pots.
