This wonderful pachycaul tree is from Zimbabwe, northeastern South Africa, and Botswana. The main stem has peeling bark, and the stems have small gray leaves and sharp spines. The plant produces white fragrant flowers that are 6-inches long. We’ve seen this species growing near pans in the Kalahari where the low temperature is known to have sunk to 3F. These plants are seedlings in one-gallon pots.
