Euphorbia balsamifera has a disjunct distribution, with E. balsamifera ssp. adenensis occurring in Arabia, Somalia, and Sudan and ssp. balsamifera occurring in Western Africa and the Canary Islands. This subspecies has a succulent stem and branches bearing linear-lanceolate leaves. The cyathia are relatively large and light yellow. These plants are seedlings in one-gallon pots.
