From the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, this short shrubby species has cylindrical stems covered with rounded tubercles. In the same group as E. clava, E. clandestina, and E. bubalina, this species differs in that it generally is either unbranched or sparsely branched. In addition, the cyathia is surrounded with a circular, purple bract. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
