This strange species, not a Haworthia or an Astroloba because of its flowers, is from the winter rainfall areas of the western Karoo in South Africa. It has the appearance of an Astroloba, with spiraling stout green leaves that have sharp tips in the older plants. Despite the epithet, the smallish flowers are orange to reddish with white tips and yellow anthers. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
