This cycad is native to the eastern coastal states of Mexico. It produces fronds of pinnate green leaves that are distinctive for the lack of marginal spines. This conifer produces male and female cones on different plants. Dioon edule can be grown in the ground in temperate climates like Tucson owing to its drought tolerance, or it can be treated as a house plant as long as it is not overwatered. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
