From the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, this species has a single, upright succulent stem. Linear leaves appear on the new growth of this spineless, but old woody peduncles persist on the stems, giving the appearance of long spines. This species is related to Euphorbia bupleurifolia. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
