From central to southern Africa, where it grows in rocky substrates, this geophyte looks like a stump when dormant but explodes in the summer with fast-growing green stems and leaves. A legume, it produces pretty lavender-purple flowers and large seeds in pods that explosively dehisce, spraying seeds around if the pods are not contained. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
