This species, from the Western Cape Province of South Africa, is difficult to find in the trade, because other species, mostly E. flanaganii, are sold under this name. The true E. caput-medusae is a medusoid species with finger-like stems up to about an inch in diameter radiating upwards from the base. The cyathia are green with white processes. These plants are seedlings in 5-inch pots.
