This species has a narrow distribution in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, but it grows a little farther inland than the other varieties. This form, which Bayer (1999) does not recognize, comes from northwest of Albertina. The light-green, soft leaves are acuminate and have weak spines on the margins. The color is a washed-out green that suggests this is a variegated form of var. suberecta, as Bayer suggests. These plants are rooted offsets in 3-inch pots.
