Think of this columnar cactus as the dwarf cardón. From Baja California and Sonora, Mexico, its distribution is generally south of P. pringlei. It differs from saguaro with less flutes on the stems and a dry fruit. This is a slow growing species compared with both saguaros and cardones. We‘ve grown this species in Tucson and have had no frost damage at 18-20F. These plants are seedlings in 5-inch pots.
