Beavertail pricklypear cactus is common in the Mojave and western Sonoran Deserts, where it primarily receives winter rainfall. Variety ramosa, however, is from the western side of the transverse range and, unlike the typical species, branches above ground on older pads. The flowers are large and magenta. These plants are rooted pads in 5-inch pots.
