We think this possibly undescribed species of Melocactus is from either Ecuador or Peru. These globose plants has green bodies that generally are taller than wide. The closely appressed spines are white. It produces a reddish cephalium when only several years old that bear light pink-violet flowers. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
