This species is from the Big Bend Region of Texas and probably into northern Mexico. It is a low-growing, mat-forming species that propagates easily from its violet-green pads. This subspecies is much smaller than the typical species and has bright yellow flowers. These plants are rooted pads in 5-inch pots.
