From the southern Arabian Peninsula, particularly Yemen and Oman, and extending into northeastern Africa in the Sudan and Eritrea, this species forms a large-stemmed shrub that dominates hillsides. The branches are 3-5 angled with a horny, spiny margin. The cyathia are yellow. These plants are seedlings in 2-inch pots.
