This species has been merged, with several others, into Gymnocalycium anisitsii, a group from Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil. This globose species has short spines closely appressed against a light-green body that often has reddish-violet hues. The flowers are quite variable, ranging from white to light red. What some call variety robores isn’t well documented. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
