From the Canary Islands (hence the name), this species forms dense stands of shrubs with 4-6 angled branches. The species typically is recognized by the non-variegated, dark green flutes and the ribs lined with small red-black spines. The cyathia are dark red. These plants are rooted cuttings in 5-inch pots.
