This species is widely distributed in Chihuahua, Mexico, but subspecies henricksonii has a restricted distribution. The plants are columnar with multiple stems developing with age, and the spines are a light gray color. The flowers are violet to light purple and rather small. These plants are seedlings in 5-inch pots.
