This species is from the Arizona highlands north of the Sonoran Desert with a range as far north as western Grand Cayon. It is a thin-stemmed cholla from a summer rainfall area and can take considerable frost. It has long yellow (weathering darker) spines from the green stems are thin and green. The flowers are yellow. These plants are rooted cuttings in 2-gallon pots.
