This species occurs in the western Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico. As the name suggests, the body of this clustering plant is covered with long white spines, obscuring its light-green body. The flowers are small and dark red, suggesting a relationship with the genus Cochemiea. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
