This globular geophyte is from East Africa, ranging from Ethiopia to Tanzania. This species forms an above-ground caudex that looks like a smooth sporting ball when young and can be 6-9 feet across in old plants. The vines are perennial and produce broadly ovate green leaves. The species is sexually confused, sometimes monoecious, sometimes dioecious, sometimes bisexual, but do not buy this one for the flowers, which are inconspicuous at best. These plants are seedlings in one-gallon pots.
