From southern Arizona, where it is listed as an endangered species, Tumamoca is a geophyte. Notwithstanding the very real effects of development on wiping out its habitat, some think the other reason it is endangered is that it is difficult to find. The only time it isnt so difficult to find is when it is in flower and fruit, when the distinctive red coloration shows vividly in the desert environment. This produces a very nice above-ground geophyte in the proud tradition of other African cucurbits. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
