This species is the purple vine version of sweet potato, cultivated as an ornamental plant. It has an underground root system that can produce tubers, but this plant is grown for the purple foliage and flowers that are large, showy, and purple. These plants will freeze back to beneath the surface but resprout in the spring. These plants are seedlings in 5-inch pots.
