This species is from southern Africa, typically from the arid and semiarid areas in the southwestern part of the continent. The leaves are narrow with a prominent upper channel and characteristic smaller channels all around. The leaves are distichous and light gray-green in the adult form, but these seedlings show the dimorphic leaf type of broad flat leaves prior to production of the upright adult leaves. These plants are seedlings in 3-inch pots.
