Sansevieria stuckyi Godefroy-Lebeuf

Protologue: Les Sanseveria Gigantesques de l’Afrique Orientale et Leurs Fibres 13 (1903).
Subgenus: Capitulatus
Group: Sansevieria stuckyi
Etymology: This species is named for a Mr. Stucky.
Distribution: Mozambique with small populations in Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Brief Description: This acaulescent and rhizomatous species produces 1 - 2 (rarely 3) erect leaves that are cylindrical with a groove along the upper face. The leaves are 122-275 cm high and 3.8-6.4 cm in diameter with a pale brown hard acute tip. The leaf color generally is dull green and slightly glaucous, and some plants have pale green banding and numerous longitudinal lines. The leaf surfaces are slightly rough. The inflorescence is 21-32 cm tall and capitate.
Similar Species: The only species similar to Sansevieria stuckyi is Sansevieria fischeri, which occurs well to the north in East Africa, Somalia, and southern Ethiopia. Unlike that species, Sansevieria stuckyi seems relatively uniform in its growth characters, including a typically uniform green color. In general, S. stuckyi is a slightly larger as well.
