Etymology: This species is named for the late Dave Richards, who was a plant collector from Harare, Zimbabwe.
Distribution: This species is only found on the Great Dyke, specifically at the Mpinge Pass.
Brief Description: This acaulescent, broad-leaf rhizomatous species with 2-5 lanceolate leaves 35-65 cm long by 9-20 cm wide. The leaves are stiff, upright to spreading, rough on both sides, and glaucous blue-green with a reddish margin. The leaves are broadly guttered and taper to an acute but soft tip. The inflorescence is simple, 50-60 cm tall with 3-4 flowers per cluster.
Similar Species: Sansevieria richardsii is related to other species from southeastern Africa, particularly Sansevieria scimitariformis, but that species occurs in Malawi and has a capitate inflorescence.
