Sansevieria pfisteri D. J. Richards

Protologue: Sansevieria 19: 4 (2009).
Subgenus: Sansevieria
Group: Sansevieria cylindrica
Etymology: This epithet honors Ferdie Pfister, who with Philip Downs found this species on a trip in 1969.
Distribution: Southwestern Angola.
Brief Description: This very slow growing acaulescent and rhizomatous species has 8 - 15 distichous and widely spreading leaves. The smooth leaves are up to 64 cm long and 2 cm in diameter, and the color is a light blue-green to dull dark green with faint green bands and a purple blush at the base, particularly on young plants. The leaves have an upper channel about 2 cm wide and 1.2 cm deep from the base to nearly ¾ of the leaf length with a brownish margin. As many as 7 or more shallow grooves are present on the leaf sides. The inflorescence is up to 64 cm tall and simple with 6 - 10 flowers per cluster.
Similar Species: Sansevieria pfisteri is related to Sansevieria pearsonii but differs in its more spreading form of the leaves and generally larger size as well as its limited distribution. Its coloration and the size of its leaves makes it difficult to confuse with other species in the genus.
