Brief Description: |
This acaulescent and rhizomatous species has numerous flexible and slightly rough leaves, generally numbering 4 - 9 per rosette. The leaves are 38-60 long and 6.5-10.7 cm long and 2.5 cm thick in the middle of the leaf. The leaves are erect, spreading, and recurving with seasonal folding, and the form is lanceolate narrowing upwards to a soft green tip. The leaf color is medium green with lighter green banding and blotching and a thin red margin with shredding fibers. The inflorescence is 38-61 cn tall with 1 - 5 flowers per cluster. |
Similar Species: |
Sansevieria marachiensis has similarities to many other broad-leaf sansevierias from East Africa, especially Sansevieria raffillii, although that species has smooth leaves. Most of the other East African species have fewer leaves, especially Sansevieria elliptica. It is somewhat related to Sansevieria rosulata owing to its large number of leaves arranged in a rosette, but S. marachiensis is light green in color with extensive mottling and banding. |
