Brief Description of the Typical Species: |
This broad-leaf acaulescent and rhizomatous species has 4 - 6 rosulate, spreading, and lanceolate leaves. The smooth leaves are 30-150 cm long by 4-9 cm wide and narrow downwards to a 8 cm long channelled petiole. The leaves are dark green with lighter green spots scattered or in irregular bands, the tip is brown and soft, and the margin red-brown or yellowish in color. The inflorescence is 33-68 cm tall and simple with 2 - 3 flowers per cluster. |
Brief Description of Variety fernandopoensis: |
This variety differs from the typical species because of a shorter floral tube. |
Similar Species: |
Sansevieria longiflora resembles a number of other broad-leaf sansevierias, particularly those from East Africa. It could be confused with several other species, notably Sansevieria aubrytiana and S. vanillosa. Sansevieria vanillosa occurs in coastal southeastern Tanzania a considerable distance away from where Sansevieria longiflora is known to have habitat. |
