Sansevieria 30: 10 (2013). |
Subgenus: |
Sansevieria |
Group: |
Sansevieria dawei |
Etymology: |
This species is named for the numerous longitudinal lines on the leaves. |
Distribution: |
It is only known from one hillside in western Uganda. |
Brief Description: |
Another acaulescent and rhizomatous species, this one has 2 - 6 erect leaves that are oblanceolate in form and 28-72 cm long by 2-4.8 cm wide. The leaf base has a channelled petiole about an inch long, and the tip is blunt and soft. The smooth leaf surface is light green in color with irregular zigzag transverse bright greenish-white bands; 14 - 23 longitudinal dark green lines occur on the lower part of the leaf while a few discontinuous central lines occur on the upper part of the leaf. The inflorescence is 48-73 cm tall and simple with 2 - 6 flowers per cluster. |
Similar Species: |
This species could well be made into a subspecies of Sansevieria trifasciata given the similarity of the two species. Otherwise, it is unlikely that this species would be confused with any other species in the genus because of the numerous lineations on the leaves. |
