Etymology: The epithet refers to the smooth surface of the leaves.
Distribution: This species occurs in the south-central Rift Valley of Kenya.
Brief Description: This shortly caulescent species offsets with stolons up to 30 cm long. It has a 10-20 cm stem that is erect, and up to 15 distichous leaves that are ascending to spreading -and cylindrical with deep grooves. The leaves are 85 cm long by 1.5-2.0 cm wide near the base, and the upper face has a channel 12.7-22.9 long by1.92 cm wide and 0.6cm deep. The smooth to slightly rough leaves are a dark green color with few or no markings or transverse bands. The apex is conical with a sharp tip. The inflorescence is 60 tall and simple with 4 flowers per cluster.
Similar Species: Not counting Sansevieria downsii from Malawi, this is the largest member of the Sansevieria suffructicosa group. It is a more upright species than S. downsii, and its mostly smooth leaves and medium green color separate it from Sansevieria suffructicosa.
