Subgenus: Sansevieria
Group: Sansevieria dawei
Etymology: This species is named for Professor Robert Kityo of Makerere University in Uganda.
Distribution: Eastern Uganda near Mount Elgon.
Brief Description: This is an acaulescent, narrow-leaf rhizomatous species with 2-5 nearly linear leaves 56-95 cm long by 11-16 cm wide. The leaf base is slightly narrowed, and the leaves are erect to spreading, often bending near the midpoint. The smooth medium-green leaves are broadly guttered, and taper to an acute soft tip. The inflorescence is simple, 48-130 cm tall and about a 0.8 cm wide. The fertile portion is about 2/3rds of the inflorescence length and is densely flowered with 5-8 flowers per cluster.
Similar Species: Sansevieria kityoi is related to other Ugandan species, particularly Sansevieria nilotica and S. subtilis, but that species occurs in central and southern Uganda.
