Protologue: Sansevieria Journal 3: 53 (1994).
Subgenus: Sansevieria
Group: Sansevieria suffruticosa
Etymology: The epithet refers to the town of Hargeisa, Somalia, which is near to where this species is native.
Distribution: Northern Somalia, often referred to as Puntland or Somaliland.
Brief Description: A small, clumping acaulescent species, this one spreads with short rhizomes. The rosulate and rough leaves typically number 4 - 8, and these leaves are 20 cm long and 1.0-1.4 cm wide. They are spreading and cylindrical with a channel extending from the base to 1/8 - 1/3 of the length and bearing a white margin. The tip is sharp, and the leaves are dull dark green with lighter green bands and 5 - 7 dark green longitudinal lines. The inflorescence is simple and 18 cm tall with 3 flowers per cluster.
Similar Species: This species is only slightly larger than Sansevieria ballyi, which occurs well to the south in southeastern Kenya, and is much smaller than Sansevieria suffruticosa. Sansevieria phillipsiae is a much larger species from the same area of northern Somalia.
