From South Africa, this small species typically grows in quartzite fields. As its name indicates, the plant produces a short columnar stem with closely appressed leaves. This monocarpic species, which flowers and then dies, produces short columns of very fragrant yellowish-white flowers. These plants are seedlings in 3-inch pots.
