From the area between the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa, Marlothistella has only two species. M. stenophylla produces numerous brown-green succulent leaves from a tuberous, dividing rootstock. The flowers are reddish-purple and medium sized. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
