From the Chihuahuan Desert of the United States and Mexico, this relatively small Echinocactus tends to be solitary. The spines are gray-black and usually are dense enough to obscure the gray-green body and its 8 ribs. The tip tends to be obscured with dense wool. The flowers are yellow-pink. These plants are seedlings in one-gallon pots.
