From the southern Great Karoo of South Africa, in the region where the Northern, Western, and Eastern Cape Provinces meet, this species used to be part of the genus Aloinopsis. This species is very similar to D. peersii and could well be considered a subspecies. The flowers are yellow-orange with reddish tips and flower open mostly in the late afternoon. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
